This statement provides information about the use of personal data provided by prospective students and applicants for admission to the schools’ programs, events, and for financial aid.. This statement provides notice under the laws and regulations that include notice and other requirements that may apply to your personal data (together the Privacy Laws).   • College Board, ACT, Educational Testing Service, International English Language Testing System, and other similar third parties, which provide information to Kettering and other colleges and universities at the student’s request; 
  • U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and other government agencies; and 
  • Existing Kettering University student educational records.

Who has access to collected information? 

  • Kettering University faculty & staff; Cooperative Education partners, and select alumni. Access varies based on purpose.  
  • Third parties who provide services to Kettering University or to students, pursuant to a contract with Kettering University;

What personal data will be collected, used, or otherwise processed? What is it used for? 

For prospective students and applicants to undergraduate, on-campus graduate degrees &  certificate programs, Kettering University collects information about prospective students, applicants, and enrolled students in its programs (referred to herein collectively as “students”), as well as their family members or guardians.

Kettering University is an institution of higher education that provides a variety of programming for students. To provide a meaningful, engaging, and safe experience, Kettering University must collect personal information about students in its programs to permit the University to develop and administer academic programs and events, facilitate cooperative education and other experiences, identify and provide housing arrangements, help students budget and pay for the programs, assess, and help students ensure a healthy and safe experience. It is necessary for Kettering University to collect each piece of personal information to provide and support Kettering’s students. Students cannot be admitted into Kettering University without providing contact information and academic information, and the University cannot assess whether to award a grant or scholarship without the financial information. It is highly unlikely that the University can place students in the cooperative education program without information about their abilities and interests.

As a prospective student or applicant, how do I withdraw my interest?

At any time, a prospective student or current applicant may withdraw their interest in the university by contacting the Office of Admissions. Currently enrolled students should contact the Office of the Registrar. 

 How long will my personal data be kept?

We will store your personal data for as long as necessary to complete the application process. If you are admitted, your personal information will normally be kept for at least five years or longer after the completion of the application process. If you are admitted and decide to enroll, your personal information will be kept as part of your student record for the duration of your studies and as part of your alumni record.  It may also be used as part of our assessment of any future application you make for further studies at Kettering. 

Your personal accounts

Although the University has security measures in place to protect personal data you provide to it, you are encouraged to take steps on your own to protect your information by, for example, logging out of online applications and university platforms and tools, closing all web browsers after use of a website, and keeping your account and passwords confidential. You should be aware that any information you post or disclose in news groups, forums, message boards, and similar contexts may become public. You should always exercise caution before disclosing any personal data or other information in such contexts.


Your personal information rights and choices as a prospective student

  • Correct personal information, you may contact the Office of Admissions to update or correct certain personal information. 
  • Manage recruitment communications from us. You may opt out of email messages, and you are required to opt in to text messages and subsequently have the option to opt out. We do not recommend opting out as you may miss important information; if you are no longer interested, please refer to the withdrawal process. 
  • Depending on where you live, you may also have certain state- or country-specific rights with respect to your personal information.  

Children and Minors

If you are a US resident under the age of 13, an EU Resident under the age of 16, or a PRC Resident under the age of 14, please do not provide any personal information unless authorized by parental consent.
